When AWS goes down

he AWS outage showed how one failure cascades everywhere. You're probably a single point of failure in your business. Questions to ask before it breaks.

AWS went down this past weekend.

    Slack stopped working.
    AI tools went offline.
    Major websites crashed.

AWS is supposed to be the gold standard.
Multiple data centers. Redundancy built in.

    Then one monitoring system failed.
That broke DNS—the thing that connects web addresses to servers.
    Which broke a database service.
Which broke everything that used that database.

    One thing failed.
    Everything else fell like dominoes.

We used to call that a SPOF—a single point of failure.

It made me think: what’s the single point of failure in my business?

    You’re probably one.
The only one who prices jobs, closes deals, or handles key clients?
    That’s a SPOF.

    AI can help.
    Not by replacing you—
by getting what’s in your head out of your head.

    Questions worth asking:

    • If ChatGPT goes down, can you use Claude?

    • When did you last export your client list?

    • What happens if your website’s down for 24 hours?

    • Who covers when you’re out?

    The tools will go down.
    Can your business keep running?

Worth thinking about: backups. Documentation. Cross-training.
    Not if. When.
